Radio Disney

Lindsay Carnes, Skateboard Project Winner

My sister and I did a 30 minute spot for Radio Disney. They said it will be on Saturday morning. Sorry I don’t know what time but she did say it would be  early. We had a great time. She made it very easy for both of us. I think it was because she was great but it might be because I have done a lot of interviews. Either way I highly recommend it.

Thanks Professor Schmitt

Lindsay Carnes, Skateboard Project Winner

Today my class made skateboards that Create A Skate gave us. We sanded, and sanded, and sanded. We put finish on them. They look great and next we get to decorate them. The class has learned about skateboards, the math to build them, and about wood strength. You should ask your school if you can do the Create A Skate program. It is great fun and didn’t seem like school at all.

Morning TV

Lindsay Carnes, Skateboard Project Winner

My whole family got up and we did a segment or the News LIVE!!! Yikes. It was fun and I got to talk about everything but it was weird too because she didn’t talk to me before so I didn’t know what to think.

Day 2 California

Lindsay Carnes, Skateboard Project Winner

Well it took me a while to write this (sorry)

Day 2: We went back to Professor Schmitt’s House to work on some more experiments. One of them was the surfboard that you can skate to the beach. We couldn’t finish that because Jenna Wolfe showed up to see what we were doing and she filmed a spot for the Today Show. Can you believe that? Anyway they did some interviews. Then after lunch some professional skateboarders came by to play in the Professors skateboard park (Bucky, Kurtis, and Darrell). They are really very nice and they are amazing to watch. Thanks to Micheal Bream I can do 3 or 4 tricks on my board. Micheal made me a special Gravity board for light riders. It is so cool. My friends went crazy for it when I got home. But back to the pros and Jenna Wolfe…They all skated for us and Jenna even gave it a try. She was really very good too. Micheal chased Professor Schmitt around the bowl with the camera, on skateboards. They are so much fun. So look for the Kids Science Challenge on the Today Show in a couple of weeks. Thanks for swimming with me Cole and I hope you had a great 10th Birthday…… Lindsay

California

Lindsay Carnes, Skateboard Project Winner

I worked so hard today. We made I think 5 different boards. The Dyson worked OK but it was very heavy, 16 pounds. That’s a little more than 2 times what a normal skateboard weighs.

When we were done for the day I got to go swimming in Professor Schmitt’s crazy cool pool. He has a rope swing, a water slide, and Hot tub ( that was really hot) ,and 2 water falls. Paul has a son that is about my age and we got to play together. He was super nice. If you are reading this, Hi Cole! I really liked meeting you.I wish we had had more time to work on the Dyson board more and get it right but the pool was calling and we were short on resources.

Day 1 California

Lindsay Carnes, Skateboard Project Winner

We traveled today it was long. I loved hanging out with my Mom but we were so tired. We went out for the best sushi I ever had and back to the hotel for a movie and to bed….Big day tomorrow, I get to work with the scientists.

Lindsay, the skateboarder

Lindsay Carnes, Skateboard Project Winner

Hi, I’m Lindsay Carnes, the winner of the skateboard challenge.  It has been a great experience for me.  I’m looking forward to California,  where I get to see if my idea works.  And learning to skateboard with PAUL  SCHMITT!!!!  Rest up Paul, remember I don’t know how to skateboard YET.  I loved being at MIT for the science fair.  I LOVED meeting the winners of the flavor challenge contest.  I’m also looking forward to Camp Woodward.

Thanks for taking the time to read MY blog!  I will let you know how things go if you read again sometime.

Crossing a Skateboard with a Vacuum Cleaner?

KSC Team

Skateboard category winner Lindsay Carnes will soon meet with skateboard gurus Michael Bream and Paul Schmitt to build her idea: a skateboard that rolls on a Dyson-vacuum-like ball, instead of traditional wheels. Dyson is sending a box of materials to help the project along. Will the concept work? Check back soon to see what happens!
